Performing Artists' Dojo
Bridge the gap between technical instruction and fully-realized performance. The Performing Artist’s dojo is an exploratory space to slow down and gain conscious control of your artistry through the Alexander Technique. Every performance begins with the performer, YOU. Learn how to gain conscious control over the fundamentals of performance, so that you can hone your technical and performance skills, develop a relationship to your process, and create the art you want to make.
Mondays 6:30-8pm, Thursdays 11:30am-1pm, Saturdays 1-2:30pm
Apply principles of the Alexander Technique to all aspects of your theater practice in this class. While exploring both classical and contemporary forms, we will consider various means to prepare for acting, to expand awareness of presence, availability, and emotional imagination, and to illuminate the ways that we use our whole selves to create space for new pathways, creativity, choice and change. We will also look at effective practices for vocal-use, physical embodiment, injury prevention, self-care, recuperation and rest. All to give us tools for finding less tension/effort and more ease, power, and freedom in our acting. These classes are informed and influenced by your current curiosities and questions around acting and performing.

While exploring both technical and improvisational forms, we will consider various means to prepare for dancing, to expand our awareness of presence and embodiment and to illuminate the ways that we use our whole selves to create space for choice and change. We will also look at effective practices for injury prevention, self-care, recuperation and rest. All to give us tools for finding less tension and effort and more ease and freedom in our dancing. These classes are informed and influenced by your current curiosities and questions around dancing and performing.
Explore the connections inside your mind and body. Discover those same connections to your instrument and learn the process of playing your body. Cultivate a more balanced performing attitude and posture.
Discover how to sing with the freedom and ease you always knew was possible. Integrate principles of the Alexander Technique into the full act of singing with a pianist. Learn how to expand the Alexander Technique concept of tensegrity into the full act of singing-acting so that your voice, the music, and the story all support each other into a unified, holistic, dynamic performance.
BAC Floor Class
Establish a calm, gentle, and balanced alignment on your back through your breath and spatial awareness, and then explore fundamental movements from that deepened mindful state. Spend time on your front, all fours, and then intentionally move to standing. Practice your balance and weight mobilization. Utilize your new understandings and insights in practical application and movement games. The class is taught through the Alexander Technique lens that provides you with a learning process for change and development.

Introduction to the Alexander Technique
Curious about the Alexander Technique and want to learn more? Come to the BAC’s Introduction to the Alexander Technique class to try it out! All are welcome.
This choral experience is open to all people who enjoy singing with others! Each evening will begin with an extended whole-body 'tune-up' using principles of the Alexander Technique and we will explore exercises in vocalization while learning about our anatomy in motion. The second part will be a choral rehearsal where we will learn music and sing in a variety of genres and styles from baroque to modern, from classical to world music, culminating in an informal performance in December. Join us and improve your singing through expanded awareness!
Chair Balance Class
Move and learn about yourself while you explore your balance and range of motion from a chair. You will find your breath and the ease of movement as you discover how your spine, joints, and limbs move both independently and together. Movement games and props will help to build coordination and find flow in your body. This class is a place to develop your kinesthetic sense, spatial awareness, balance, flexibility, and overall sensory awareness.
Adaptive AT for People with EDS/HSD
Suitable for newcomers and returning students alike, these weekly classes will explore movement control, posture, and ease through awareness-building activities. Alexander Technique (AT), an experiential learning process, utilizes hands-on sensory feedback from qualified teachers and practical information about anatomy and body mechanics to assist students in developing skills that can reduce pain and improve quality of life. The type of AT taught in this course is designed to be safe and effective for hypermobility.
The BAC morning meditation sessions provide a space to cultivate mindfulness, self-awareness, attentional stability, and relaxation. The first fifteen minutes are guided with a focus on establishing bodily alignment, coherence, and ease. The remaining 30 minutes are held in silence for meditation. This structure allows people of all skill and experience levels to engage the practice.

BAC Teacher Training Course Open House
Come experience the BAC Teacher Training Course! You will receive hands on work and be used as a practice student while getting to see what it’s like to be in the course. There will be an opportunity just before the end of class to meet with Ann to ask any questions and to schedule a private lesson with her.
